RNase A is an endonuclease that has been studied in detail and widely used. RNase A can hydrolyze RNA, but not DNA. Ribonuclease A specifically catalyzes the cleavage of the 3 '- and 5' -
phosphate diester bonds in the ribose portion of RNA at the C-and
u-terminal residues to form oligonucleotides with 2 ', 3' - cyclic
phosphate derivatives. It can be used to remove contaminated RNA from DNA products.
